In 2007, Andy Yatteau and Reeves Clippard left their jobs and founded A&R Solar in Seattle with $700 and a simple idea: build a solar company focused on people and planet, not just profit. They started installing solar hot water systems during one of the toughest years for construction, funneling every dollar back into growing the business. Those early years were lean—it took several years before the founders could take consistent paychecks—but they were committed to doing solar differently. Since that first year when they completed just three installations and earned under $70,000 in revenue, A&R Solar has grown into one of the Northwest’s most respected solar installers, completing over 5,000 projects and installing more than 37 megawatts of clean energy across Washington and Oregon. Today, the Seattle-based company employs over 115 people, with approximately half as employee-owners, and operates offices in the Puget Sound, Portland, Bend, and Eastern Washington.
